BUILD A BUG

Seventh grade Life Science has been fun this year with dissecting flowers, earthworms, and squid. In the next week or so we will dissect frogs.
Besides taking critters apart, my students have put together some pretty cool ones as we've studied insects. Here are a few pictures of seventh grade entomologists building their own bugs.

After three class periods to get the project started, students used their lunchtime to finish up. The insects were constructed of papier-mache', paint, pipe cleaners, hot glue and plenty of scientific imagination. We figure that God was pretty creative when he made all of us, so we were pretty creative in coming up with new bugs.

TOURNAMENT

This weekend Stephanie and her team have their first tournament of the season. We were all looking forward to it and then...

... during last Tuesday's game Stephanie took a swing at an inside pitch. Rather than making contact with the bat, the ball smacked into Stephanie's hand breaking two of her fingers. Ouch! Steph's out for the rest of the season.

Instead of helping the team out from behind the plate, Stephanie cheered from the dugout. She cheered and enjoyed hot cocoa on this cold morning.

The team dropped all three games Saturday...some sad. It rained (hard) during the second game so when that game ended we headed home. It's one thing to be supportive, but we are not crazy enough to sit in the rain all afternoon. We'll catch up with the team after church on Sunday to see how the tournament finishes up.

Not only does Stephanie miss out on the remainder of the softball season, she is going to miss her basketball tournament next month in Spokane. And with those fingers out of commission she can't play the clainet so she's out of band for the rest of the school year, and she's off the worship team at church since she cannot grip her drumstick. Bummer. I'm very glad that she didn't break the other two fingers instead! Imagine that!
